How to Deal With Sensory Overload
For people on the autism spectrum, things like trying something new or going somewhere and doing something they haven't done before can take up a lot of mental space. And then if there's also sensory overwhelm involved in that, that's often where we get complete avoidance or meltdown because it's just too many things. So once you're aware of it, and you know what you can do to adjust to your environment or have strategies to cope with it, it really takes a load off your whole system.
