It's unusual that a current-day scandal and historic event should have ended up being so intertwined. For me, it was a question of defending Jefferson's honor. If it had turned out that he was, then I was not hell-bent on refuting it. But it is simply the case that what people call the Monticello Mafia, that they simply had a great story.
