The Importance of Consensual Rule in Eastern Europe
In Western Europe, there is a tendency toward these strongly centralizing royal states. In Eastern Europe, you seem to have elements of elected monarchy and a much more powerful nobility that perhaps spread the power out. And in Eastern Europe, it really blossoms ultimately to the detriment of these countries. It booms Poland with the way. The other Balkan states are just steamrolled by the Ottomans. They try to be miniature versions of Byzantium. But they're small and it's, you know, they also have the problem of disunity.
