In battling o the end, gerard gets pretty apocalyptic. The whole discussion is mediated through klausevitz and his writing on war. And so you basically end up with this the seemingly secular guide to apocalypse. It really ties a historical sensibility in with a kind of biblical apocalyptic sensibility. So it's interesting that he takes literally the idea that the coming of christ precipitates us towards the end of the world.
