Rowe: I grew up in the Southern on Birdie and it was pretty idyllic, but then I made my first road trip and discovered that there are places like Gary, Indiana, which were utterly foul and putrid. Veronica Frans is another scientist who related to this idea; she's a graduate student studying ecology at Michigan State University. She says we're introducing invasive species at a much quicker rate than humans did before.
