The few people who were not sick were basically they couldn't do anything except care for those who were ill. There was a saying that a pioneer had a wholesome fear of two things, fever, an ague and rattlesnakes. And a second saying suggested just how common it was to get sick. Ah, he ain't sick, he only got the agger.
