There's this pattern that exists in real life that needs an explanation. Why is it that there are almost always certain parts of the brain that exist in the cortex that do certain types of functions? Any explanation that doesn't explain that is going to have an explanation gap and is therefore a bad explanation. So we don't want to just throw out the idea of parts of the cortex, just because we know it can be rewired.
