Native Peoples' Misgivings About Treaty Negotiations
The Potoyensitribe was negotiating a treaty with the U.S. government in 1851. They saw it as the only way the tribes could avoid extinction, but most Native people had a different point of view. The terms are simple: If you move to the reservation we're proposing, you'll be free to live your lives however you want.
