Having a Designer as a Manager

Only once in my entire career have i had a manager who is a designer. And what kind of tends to happen for me in conversations with my manager is ther they're less about the design work and more about process, or right strategy. So if it's any like, like comfort to you, i don't feel like i've had my career held back because of that.
