What Is Monopoly?
Games like chess and drafts can be referred to as folk games by comparison with proprietary games. Traditional games don't have any known inventor, so nobody owns them. But even patented games undergo changes by the people who play them. And in that respect, if they're very popular, they will undergo all sorts of changes. In that respect, they become folk games again.
