The Congo's First Preserve, Kahuzi Biega National Park

Kahuzi Biega National Park was originally established in 1937 by Belgian colonialists. 6,000 people of the Batua indigenous community were forced off their land. Vedas de Chituli who works in the park paints a picture where locals today consider the park a geographic fear. In 2019 following the encouragement of national election candidates the autotony tried to re-enter the park leading to violence between park rangers and the Autotony one of whom was reportedly killed.
