The Way of Godliness
Paul addresses timothy as a man of god, a man who is committed to the things of god. Ought to be a godly man, a man characterized by the way godliness. Paul depicts the way of godliness using a number of different terms,. Righteousness is moral uprightness. Godliness refers to a form of life and character that conforms to the god that has called us. Faith love and steadfast ness might be related to the three theological virtues of faith and love and hope. To these must be added gentleness. This gentleness does not entail a lack of strength. He is to fight the good fight of faith.
