Commuting and Happiness
When people are looking for a place to live they often want a big place. They also want it in town where it's interesting and convenient but the bigger places are more expensive downtown. So they see this as a trade off. I can live in town and have a small place or I can live outside town and having a big place, right? But not with commuting. The commute always drives you crazy it never stops bothering you. There's an effect on your stress and the quality of your social life. It seems like we're entering the domain of habituation meaning the term for that which has a strong emotional impact at first tends to lessen over time.
