Westinghouse was a wealthy industrialist who wanted to make tessel's invention, if not his name, the standard across the country. Wessinghouse had made his fortune in the 18 sixties and seventies in the railroad industry. Tesla actually spent a couple of years desperately trying to find a place, any place, that would pay him enough for his a c motor. He even dug ditches for edison's cables for a while.
