Cynicism was a very aeschetic way of life. They denounced all social conventions and recommended a return to a life in conformity with nature. The epicureans sought a pleasant life of tranquillity in a garden amidst a group of friends. Stoicism was a self co herent, rational life lived in constant recognition of the relationship between our own human nature and the divine nature of the cosmos. So why is all this important? Why do we care about all these paths? I think there are two very important reasons why this is worthy of our consideration.
