The Uncle's House Is Not at Home

The only way I know New York is from pictures, isn't it? You're in one of those apartment buildings and you look at a bleakly down the street. When he says house in German I think apartment building is a house. He imagines that the guy just has an enormous house. It's not at his home. The uncle doesn't live there I don't think. Or maybe he does but he doesn't live. His quarters are full of these fantastic bits of technology.
