The Effects of Alkaloids on Bee Visitation Rates

There's a much greater occurrence of alkaloids in acanitinapelis, the one that's not robbed. And what do those alkaloids do? What are they in the nectar? Quite a lot of plant chemicals are actually defense chemicals. They're anti-herbivory, so they may have toxic effects against invertebrates or insects. So we're not entirely sure because we haven't yet done the bioassays. But it's quite possible that the presence and absence of these chemicals in thenectar helps to specialise even further the pollinators for these plant species.
