The Early History of Jericho

The first plastered skulls at jericho were excavated around the 19 fifties. The skull was initially stuffed with soil, before a plastered surface was created and valued marine shells were placed on the skull as artificial eyes. Some have speculated that the skulls were prizes of defeated opponents heads. It does appear that the plastered skulls directly relate to the bodies that had been buried under the floors of dwellings. We mention the under floor burial practice earlier in the podcast at chattelhk, this would strongly suggest that the skulls being decorated belonged to close and celebrated individuals who were respected members of their homes and maybe their entire village.
