The major change in China's behavior vis a vis the United States predates Xi Jinping. You've seen the political system become more and more personalized under Xi Jinping as he stripped away protections that were put in place after Mao's dung died. And so you can see this when you think about the case of Taiwan I guess you know we try to get away from it but all roads lead back to Taiwan in a sense. The U.S. may need to temporarily downgrade institutions such as the WTO, the liberal international order, because those institutions were not designed to deal with an authoritarian predator inside the gates now.
