CHAPTER

The Bloody History of the Khoeinor Diamond

The Khoeinor has been in British hands for nearly two centuries, but it has a history of not staying in one place forever. The peacock throne was meant to invoke King Solomon's from the Quran after all, but doing so would destroy the diamond. Queen Victoria adored the young Duleep Singh; she commissioned a portrait of him by Franz Winterhalter that showed him turband with a mini portrait of Victoria around his neck. After some time he gave the diamond back to the British queen. We cannot and will never know what it must have felt like, and how much it might have hurt.
