The History of the Pelican Island Bird Reservation
Roosevelt's respect for animals did not just extend to those he hunted. By 19 o three, the av population of pelican island, florida, was being decimated. Roosevelt sought advice from his advisers about declaring a bird reservation on the island. The great loop tour would take him through yellowstone, grand canyon and yosemite. He saw mountain lions as dangerous predators that needed to be eradicated.
