The Role of Lead Extraction in Device Infections

One study published in JAMA Cardiology was a secondary analysis of the Canadian PADET trial originally published in 2018. A cellulitis can cause transient bacteremia two years after the device is placed. infection on leads can then lead to cardiac valves disease and ocarditis. Once this process happens, we have a super serious problem because pacing or ICD leads that have been implanted for years cannot easily be pulled out.
