A fungus stunted the cucumber's growth and they turned white and got too hard to eat. Farmers quit planting cucumbers and Greenlaw's pickle industry basically disappeared. In recent years, more people have learned about Samuel Bolton. The African American Historic Designation Council has been slowly bringing more attention to him.
