Introduction
Professor Jean Yarbrough is the Professor of Government at Bowdoin College. She has twice received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The New York City council decided to take down, crate up and wheel through the back door a statue of Thomas Jefferson that had been in city hall since the 1830s. Ms Yarbrough: It seems to be a very recent development that Thomas Jefferson should be regarded as a figure to cancel.
