COVID Vaccines - What's the Deal?
Pfizer has agreed to extend its contract from 2023 because it expires this year to 2026 according to two people with knowledge of the talks. The European Commission claimed a triumph in 2020, meaning it was going to pay for twice the vaccines it needed when it corralled all 27 member states into a joint contract before researchers had them approved. About 82% of adults in the block have received at least two jabs and more than 1.7 billion doses have been delivered. But as the severity of the pandemic has waned, it has left the EU committed to paying for unneeded vaccines.
