Shannon was one of these people who basically never did anything that he didn't want to do. He had private interests that just occupied him, and the idea of giving paid lectures or going on TV to talk about things just did not fit in that schema. In his house later in life, he builds a two story workshop. And if you can imagine a kind of brilliant mind comes in and just builds and compiles things...He built a trumpet that could breathe fire just to give an example.
