ISIS and Al-Qaida in Times of War
ISIS posed a real threat to Iran. Al-Qaeda was not out gratuitously beheading Shiites the way that ISIS was doing. For the Iranian regime, ISIS was just beyond the pale. Islamic Republic and the Revolutionary Guard Corps perceived this as a serious threat which could take away all their gains from them. Both Iran and the Assad regime in Syria actually utilized this Sunni jihadi.
