The signal was consistent with something rising to the zenith, not setting on the horizon. It took a while during web searches, and it turned out it was the soho space craft in orbit,. We would have caught that much earlier, but around the sun. And telescopes, like human eyes, which have peripheral vision, telescopes have side lobes where the sensitivity is much lower than normal.
