The Black Sheep's First Combat Mission
EMF-214 only flew as the black sheep for two tours. Their combat tour was not long, so they didn't see a whole heck of a lot of aerial combat. But when they did, they really racked them up because they were filled with talented people. On September 16, 1943, 214 is assigned to be an escort contingent of a very large raid that is consisting of US Navy dive bombers and torpedo planes. They're also covered by Australian Royal New Zealand Air Force P-40s and the new Navy F6F Hellcat fighters. This is in the same area where Emily Amomoto's shoot down happened.
