Dating Apps - Are They the Newest Form of Loneliness?
Dating apps are just the latest manifestation in a long history of people being very creative to patch the kind of loneliness that they feel. The earliest counterparts, I would say, are personal ads from 1695 in England. Then we had students at Stanford in 1959 who used punch cards to kind of use a very rudimentary computer to match people up. And then there was the era of video cassette dating.
