Percussive massage has been shown to reduce post-exercise delayed onset muscle soreness. There are some people that have certain genetic predispositions that do respond to it adventaciously and others that respond to it horribly. I think percussive massage is more generally applicable and beneficial, but it is something to pay attention to.
