Fusion has been more or less the main stream of rican conservatism ever since. It was another label that was intended sort of as an insult that bought intoyou appropriate it for yourself. Myer, in fact, didn't think he was coming up with anything new. He thought he was simply describing how conservatives ought to act and then adding a layer of theory over that. For most american conservatives, in practice, they don't see any inherent contradiction between these positions.
