Dean Obeidallah: The government is providing a benefit that depositors did not pay for. He says it's in effect, a subsidy to other mid-sized banks since they can count on the government covering their deposits even though they are not insured and aren't subject to same scrutiny as largest banks. "I expect that we will see some change to the deposit system where they do, in effect, say we're going to insure all accounts"
