Words change in their connotations and denotations with history. All traces back to these old Norse and old English terms from the eighth, ninth centuries which were about fear and dread. And then over time, you know, we've become less violent, there's less death, we live longer,. We don't die in childbirth, children live. So a lot of the horrors have been taken out of what's vast and mysterious.
