The Lifeblood of Spenser
Spenser was renowned for using older English words. His poems sometimes contained the first recorded instance of such loan words. He gave us an early version of the term blood curdling, as in a blood-curdling scream. The shepherd's calendar also included the first use of the words violin and tambourine from Italian and French.
