Gosh: The first time you see evidence for a single bishop of Rome is in the late 150s with Anasetus debating Polycarp. There's no evidence of that early on, he says; all the evidence comes after. Gosh: When there's conflict between an ecumenical council and a Roman bishop, other bishops can simply ignore or flat out reject what the Roman bishop says. "It looks to me like the early church did not resolve doctrinal disputes by means of an infallible teaching office in Rome"
