What Is Speculative Architecture?
I'm kind of known I guess for talking about it as speculative architecture. In the context of architecture though, speculative design is nothing new because of the massive systems of capital that are required to mobilize in order to make something like a building. It's always been speculating, always been making projects that had no intention of being built. And there it was actually relatively new and people like Dun and Raby have been fighting for decades for the legitimacy of those forms of regulation within a product design context. They really helped to shape a generation of practitioners that work in this way as speculative designers.
