The Russians Are All Friends
Even though Napoleon invaded Russia, it's as if the Russians have half forgiven him. In many ways the invasion and pushback against the French invasion in 1812 meant that Russia built herself a culture. Pushkin comes at that time and he essentially creates the modern Russian language. And then you've got all this literature that flourishes, and you've got many links between France and Russia at the time. There was this whole thing that the Russians were all friends. There was no reason not to.
