The Bathtub in Psycho
In shower, seen in psycho, we have no reason to suspect that the bathroom is dangerous. But again, every single time we're in that bathroom, it is signalled to us that this is where the danger is. The movie does a really good job of imbuing that location with menace, but not so consistently that we feel grounded or like we can really predict what's going to happen. And so it's just,. it's just a really well designed climactic sequence, ye, that we're off balance from where we have the dread, that undercurrent of dread.
