The Jones Act - A Load American Can No Longer Bear

The jones act is designed to make it easier for the United States to buy ships from abroad. It's aimed at boosting national security, but has had a negative effect on trade and industry. The cost of building American-made ships means they are less competitive than foreign ones. This in turn makes us more likely to import Russian crude oil rather than U.S. natural gas. And because we have no other transport options then we end up buying russia or ukraine over american products.
