The Lord Chancellor's Role in the Modern Age
The Lord Chancellor has been around for a thousand years, but it does modify. These days it's due with the administration of courts, prison system and legal aid. The key figure actually in defining it in the modern age was Charles Clark when he was home secretary. He ended up making both the Secretary of State for Justice and the law chancellor - which are technically separate jobs, usually held by the same person.
