The Development of a Punic Identity in Carthage
Citizens of Roman Carthage actively embraced the new Punic identity. The goddess Deokylestus was a common motif on coins of the city. Although the rites and iconography associated with the goddess were as unmistakably Roman as those who worshipped her. In fact Carthage is now wealthy again but it remains more famous for the destruction of its ancestors' claims than for the wealth of its present inhabitants.
