Long Term Monitoring of Insects

There are enormous knowledge gaps a the majority of insects are not being counted by anybody. There are no long term monitoring projects for insectsin south america or africa, which have extraordinary insect diversity. And depressingly, almostl of them show patterns of decline. In germany, keen insect enthusiasts started putting things called malays traps and emptying them once a week an since 19 89 - that enables us to look at how s of the catch has changed over time. Similarly, in the u k, we have butterfly recording schemes where people go out every two weeks through the spring and summer. They walk the same route, and they count and identify all the butterflies they see.
