The Paradox of Effective Altruism
William McCaskill is one of the philosophers who kind of was behind starting EA and Oxford. He says he laments that he spent time when he was younger, working as a care assistant in a nursing home because he argues someone else would have needed the salary he earned more. I think it shows you that there could be some pretty murky motivation behind all this. It isn't necessarily quite as clear and transparent as it claims to be.
