Is There a 3% Buffer?
Apra introduced a 3% assessment buffer in October 2021. By next month, the cash rate target will be 2.35%. The three-year bond yield is give or take about 3%. There's absolutely no justification for assessing with a 3% buffer. It makes no sense from September onwards. We've got things like full employment and rental vacancy rates at lowest level in 20 years. Incomes are rising. We don't need a 3%, it served its purpose, time to move on.
