Many of my clients fear we are getting towards the situation on consent that is said to prevail in the united states. What patients, i think, actually want is a human interface so someone whom they trust explaining to them what the real risks are and giving them some advice about what they would recommend. And as i said earlier, there is a whole range of factual scenarios with consent. In some there are a series ofen plausible and reasonable options that a patient can opto pursue. In others, where one's dealing with incredibly difficult and specialist areas of medicine, i think there will inevitably have to be greater ance on inclination to advise a patient as to what they think should be done in particular
