Assyria's Fortresses Are Ripe for Destruction
Nahem describes thebes in a manner that invites comparisons with nineveh. Assyria may not realize it, but it is ripe for destruction. Naham compares the fortresses of the assyrians to fig trees. With first ripe figs, you need only shake them a little and you will have figs falling down upon you, ready to be devoured. Although the great gates of nineveh might seem to be impregnable, they might as well be left wide open, the bars utterly destroyed by fire.
