Schopenhauer's theory of culture is that culture is like the shared agreements or modes of confrontation for the impersonal problems of life around which the basis its identity. The thing that can bind multiple individuals together into something greater than the sum of just a collection of individuals is sort of like those shared valuations. And what Nietzsche talks about is like the personal has to be consecrated to the impersonal, like the impersonal being things like death, time, mortality, loss and marriage.
