The Indiana Jones Period of Archeology

The author of the history of archeology tried to grade Belzoni on a curve. He compared him to some of his contemporaries, one of whom I believe was an Englishman who just put gunpowder between the stones and blew a hole into the side of Giza. So there's a little karmic justice in there for the bulldozing archeologist. But yes, you know, when you look at what was done in the 1800s, never mind before that, that's more than enough to make modern archeologists cry.
