The United Mine Workers' Struggle in West Virginia

During World War One, the United Mine workers made a lot of gains in West Virginia. The federal government was trying to ensure that there would be a steady supply of coal for the war effort. But when the war ended, the co-operators were determined to roll back those gains. This really set the stage for the very violent conflicts that would follow.
